St. Lucie West took shape in the early 1990s, when Core Communities began planning about seven square miles for roughly 14,000 homes, then added business districts and places for entertainment alongside them. The St. Lucie West Services District, a community development district created in 1990, still manages the water, reclaimed irrigation, stormwater systems and preserves across some 4,600 acres between the Turnpike and I-95. Its best-known address is Clover Park, built for the 1988 season and the spring training home of the New York Mets, just off St. Lucie West Boulevard on Peacock Boulevard.
