Before it was a city, this stretch of mangrove swamp and farmland saw its first home in 1947, built by Juliette Becker at what's now Sample Road and NE 21st Avenue. On June 13, 1956, just 107 of the town's roughly 600 residents voted to incorporate Lighthouse Point, named for the historic Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse standing watch just offshore since 1906.
